GoHighLevel vs HubSpot for a Dutch SME: which one, and when
Both are good CRMs. They are built for different businesses, and the wrong choice costs more in rebuilt workflows than in licence fees.
ITovio builds on GoHighLevel, and we say so up front. We chose it because it puts CRM, calendars, email, WhatsApp, SMS and funnels in one account at a flat fee, which suits the businesses we serve: service companies with a small team and leads that must be answered in minutes.
HubSpot is a fine choice for some of the businesses that ask us, and when it is, we say so. It has a deeper marketing suite, a larger ecosystem and a more polished interface, on a pricing model that grows with seats and contacts. The table compares the two as they stand in 2026; where a detail may have moved, check the vendor's current plan page.
Point by point
| Criterion | GoHighLevel | HubSpot | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | A flat monthly fee per account on a few plan tiers. No per-seat charge; messaging and some AI features are metered. | A free tier, then hubs (Marketing, Sales, Service and others) priced per seat, marketing also by contact tier. Cost rises with team and list size. | GoHighLevel for a growing team that wants a predictable number. HubSpot for a small team on the free tier. |
| Contacts and users | Unlimited contacts and users on the standard plans; you pay for what you send. | Contact tiers drive marketing cost; paid seats drive sales and service cost. The free tier is light on automation. | GoHighLevel when the team or the list will grow. HubSpot when both stay small. |
| Pipelines and deals | Multiple pipelines with custom stages and fields; sales and service side by side. | Multiple pipelines on paid Sales Hub tiers, with strong deal reporting and forecasting. | HubSpot for forecasting-heavy B2B sales; GoHighLevel for high-volume lead handling. |
| Email, SMS and WhatsApp | Built in: email on your own sending domain, SMS and WhatsApp Business in one conversation view, metered per message. | Email built in; SMS and WhatsApp through add-ons or marketplace apps, each with its own cost. | GoHighLevel when WhatsApp is a primary channel, as it is for most Dutch service businesses. |
| Calendars and booking | Personal, round-robin and service calendars with reminders and payment at booking, included. | Meeting scheduling included; round-robin and team rotation on paid tiers. | Either for one calendar. GoHighLevel for multi-service or multi-location booking. |
| Website and funnel builder | A funnel and site builder with forms and surveys: fine for landing pages, not a full company site. | A CMS hub for full websites with personalisation, priced as its own hub. | Neither replaces a proper website. ITovio builds the site separately and wires its forms into either CRM. |
| Automation depth | Triggers, conditions, waits, internal tasks and AI steps: most of what a service business needs. | Workflows on Professional tiers and above, with deeper branching, lead scoring and reporting on actions. | GoHighLevel for lead response and follow-up. HubSpot for complex nurture across large lists. |
| Reporting | Dashboards for pipelines, calls, appointments and attribution; custom reporting is thinner than HubSpot's. | A custom report builder, attribution and dashboards are a strength on Professional and Enterprise. | HubSpot when the board wants deep reports. GoHighLevel when the owner wants one dashboard. |
| Integrations and API | Native connectors for calendars, payments and ad platforms, webhooks and an API, plus Zapier, Make and n8n. | The largest marketplace of any SME CRM, a mature API and native integrations with most business tools. | HubSpot when you rely on many third-party tools. GoHighLevel when the core stack is small. |
| Data location and GDPR | Hosted on US cloud infrastructure by default, so transfer basis and sub-processors must be documented in your records; consent and erasure are configured by you. Check the vendor's current data-location page. | Offers EU data hosting for new accounts and publishes a data processing agreement and sub-processor list. | HubSpot when EU data residency is contractual. GoHighLevel when documented transfer safeguards are acceptable, as for most SMEs. |
| Ownership and portability | Your sub-account, data and billing when set up that way. Contacts export fully; workflows and funnels are rebuilt elsewhere. | Your portal and your data. Exports are thorough; workflows likewise do not move. | Either, provided the account is in your name. Ask who owns it before any agency builds it. |
| Learning curve and support in Dutch | A dense interface, English-first documentation and support. A Dutch-speaking partner matters. | A polished interface, an extensive academy, a Dutch-language interface and support on paid tiers. | HubSpot for a team that will self-serve. GoHighLevel when a partner runs it and the team works the inbox and pipeline. |
- A B2B sales team that lives in forecasting, deal reporting and sequences, where per-seat pricing is no constraint.
- Marketing is the centre of the operation: large lists, lead scoring, content and attribution across many campaigns.
- EU data residency is written into a customer contract or your policy and must be native, not documented.
- Your team will run the CRM itself and wants a Dutch interface and vendor support without a partner.
- You already have HubSpot, it works, and the problem is adoption rather than the tool.
- Leads arrive from the website, ads and WhatsApp, and the job is to answer, book and follow up within minutes.
- You want calendars, WhatsApp, SMS, email, pipelines and reporting in one account for one flat fee.
- The team is small and will grow, and you do not want the CRM bill to grow with every seat.
- You run several locations, brands or sub-businesses and want each in its own sub-account under one roof.
- You want a partner to build and maintain it, and your team to work only the inbox, calendar and pipeline.
What comes with you and what is rebuilt
Moving from HubSpot or spreadsheets to GoHighLevel starts with a data model on paper: pipelines, stages, fields, tags and consent fields, agreed before anything is imported. Contacts, companies, deals, notes and custom fields come across with their tags; duplicates are merged on the way in.
What is kept: the data, the history on each contact, the pipeline structure where it still makes sense, and the sending domain. What is rebuilt: workflows, email templates, forms and landing pages, because none of them move between platforms in a usable form. It is also the moment to retire automations nobody can explain.
What is lost unless planned for: historical email threads synced from mailboxes, scoped separately, and reporting history, which restarts from the cut-over date. The old account stays readable for as long as you choose.
